Entertaining Oasis

This fabulous backyard started as a flat lawn with a small patio. We transformed it into a luxurious pool, outdoor kitchen, and craftsman made timber frame pavilion complete with a grand fireplace. The owner wanted a space for his family and teenage sons to gather and entertain during the summer without the hassle of running back and forth to their country club. One of the main concerns of the owner was limiting the disruption of construction activities and job site clutter. An access road was built around their home to provide separate access for all the workers, equipment, and materials. The work area was contained in a very small foot print. Aqua Pool Inc. built the swimming pool with a Gunite shell and Marlite finish. The pool deck is exposed aggregate concrete with colored bands. The pool mechanics are all hidden in the basement of the pool pavilion out of sight. The timber frame pavilion was constructed by local Amish craftsmen using only mortise and tenon joints pegged with white oak. No metal fasteners were used in the construction of the timber frame. The roof was Vermont slate to match the house with copper trims. The outdoor kitchen/ bar features a Fire Magic grill, small refrigerator, ample storage, and Granite counter tops. The seasonal plantings on the pool deck were completed by the owner’s gardener.

The other side of our business is commercial and institutional landscape construction on some of Pittsburgh's most prestigious projects. From the original construction of Mellon Park in Downtown Pittsburgh to the development of Chatham University's Eden Hall Campus in Richland, Eisler is the leading commercial landscape contractor in the Greater Pittsburgh region for the past 30 years.

Sewickley Patio and Arbor

The existing patio area was converted into an outdoor living space that ties into the architectural elements of the house. The design challenge on this project was using what was there while blending in all the new amenities so it looked like it belonged. A fireplace was designed to anchor the space. Round columns mounted on piers were constructed to support a cedar pergola, and a grill island was also incorporated.

Zelienople Pool House

This design relies on a formal X, Y axis. The entire pool complex was symmetrically designed and anchored by the pool house. The pool house incorporates architectural elements from the main house and includes a kitchenette, bathroom, changing room, and outdoor shower. The rear of this building stores the lawn tractor and the pool equipment. High ceilings give the interior of the pool house an open feeling. The fire pit area accentuates the formal axis, while providing casual entertaining space outside of the pool area.

Minimalist Urban Garden

The homeowner and landscape architect worked closed together to design a contemporary “California style” outdoor space to tie together the client’s modern style home and new garage turned "mother in law suite".  A custom horizontal cedar privacy fence encloses the sunken backyard combining a clean linear feel with much desired privacy.  Bluestone paver grid and black metal edging surrounding the river stone patio carried clean lines into the landscape. Ornamental grass and bamboo were used functionally to conceal a concrete wall as well as providing a lush feel to the otherwise stark space. The homeowner installed a black basalt water feature creating a focal point.

Water Feature,  Patio and Arbor

The formal entry and patio area were designed by Rich Rauso, RLA, ASLA, and installed by Eisler Landscapes in 2011. A bluestone walk and boxwood garden were installed to welcome visitors to the courtyard area. Multiple seating areas include two bluestone patios, a firepit area, and a large exposed aggregate wrap-around patio with two arbors. Multiple fountains made from bubbling urns add to the serenity of the traditional style gardens.

Outdoor Kitchen and Pool

The clients wanted a pool, outdoor kitchen space and a custom pool house but needed to maintain open views from the house to the pool because they have three small children. Jeff Genter, RLA worked with the homeowners to design a formal entry to rear yard with brick piers, limestone caps and light fixtures and added a hot tub area for the adults. Low voltage landscape lights were added to create ambiance in evenings. The pool house features a bathroom, kitchenette, storage, and an outdoor shower.

Pool with a View

Designed by Jeffrey N. Genter, RLA, this entertaining space includes seating, firepit for the kids, and a hot tub for dad. Eisler Landscapes worked with the pool installation company and coordinated all amenities. Special design considerations included designing the pool and fire pit to tolerate high winds, maintaining views to the golf course, and keeping sight lines clear from the hot tub to the pool.

Outdoor Fireplace and Patio

This patio and fireplace added much needed outdoor entertainment space to this South Hills residence. Unit masonry walls were used to carve out more space on this hillside lot. An exposed aggregate patio provides a seating area, unit masonry fireplace and outdoor kitchen.

The Eisler design team transformed a steep hillside with a series of recreational opportunities along a meandering path. As the clients and their guests wander down the path, they pass rose and evergreen plantings, a custom spa with a waterfall backdrop, and a waterfall pond with a small seating area. The pool deck is complete with custom pool house, arbor, fireplace, outdoor kitchen, and a hidden camp-fire style firepit.

Eisler Landscapes created several recreational spaces including a swimming pool, tennis courts, new patios, a recirculating pond and waterfall at this Fox Chapel estate. Landscape plantings throughout the site soften and beautify the estate.

This sleek lap pool creates a spectacular view corridor to the outdoor fireplace from the house, and serves as a reflecting pool for the house and new arbor when viewed from the fireplace. The spa and private patio create additional relaxation spaces. Refined plantings complete the look.

Urban Oasis

Located in the heart of the Historic Mexican War Streets in Pittsburgh, this little pocket garden is only 20 feet wide and 80 feet deep. The garden is designed to provide full season bloom as well as year-round interest. Layered plantings of native and traditional garden plants create loads of texture in a tight, shady space. The informal path of reclaimed brick pavers creates a sense of history in keeping with the surrounding neighborhood.

A traditional New England style saltbox gets a major landscape upgrade with a new garden courtyard entrance. The entry courtyard at this colonial style home uses hardy perennials, evergreens, and traditional materials to compliment the traditional style of the house.

Waterfall House

 These clients worked with Jeff Genter, RLA and Brody Little, MLA to design a covered porch and waterfall to replace the existing deck and complement the existing patio. We removed the existing deck and constructed brick piers to support a new trex deck and porch roof to match the house. The porch was designed to compliment the house. It includes a skylight, ceiling fan, and finished pine ceiling. A staircase, with lights in the risers, leads to the patio below.

 
Perennials were added around the patio and multiple plantings were placed to blend the waterfall into the landscape. The naturalistic waterfall takes advantage of the slope to the fire pit, and a foot path from the side deck allows access over the stream.

Entertaining Patio

By expanding the existing patio area, the seasonal usage of the space extended. Existing brick walls and piers were removed and new ones were built to double the square footage of the patio. The fireplace anchors the outdoor sitting room complete with kitchen, bar, TV, heater, and fan. The kitchen features a large grill, storage area, side burner, and sink. The cedar pergola ties it all together complete with a ceiling fan to keep the area cool in the summer. Surface mounted lighting illuminates the patio. New grading and sod finish the area and provide a level yard.

Modern Arbor

This multi-level stone and concrete patio project pairs a large, steel, contemporary arbor with a traditional style home. Shade cloth was used to shield the patio from the warm afternoon sun. An easily accessible grill island promotes year-round grilling. Lighting was incorporated into the stone walls of the stairs that lead down to the walkout basement, and a sleek handrail was designed for safety. Easy-care planting was chosen to complete the design.

Classic Curb Appeal

Having installed the original landscaping for this client over twenty years ago we were happy to return for an update. The owner did an addition on the house and Eisler Landscapes installed the blue stone patios, walks, lawns, and freshened up the landscape. We were able to incorporate some of the specimens from the original project and give the home a fresh, more up-to-date look. Featured are low maintenance hedges, colorful perennials, and a shade garden.

Rural Pavilion

Eisler Landscapes created this rustic entertaining space complete with pond and fireplace pavilion with a concrete patio. The partially covered space is perfect for large gatherings while providing protection from the elements.  

1929 Grand Estate

The restoration of this grand estate in Butler, PA took place over a 5 year period.  Robert Truskowski, RLA, designed the landscape and Eisler Landscapes carried out the extensive site prep and landscaping . The new gardens were planted with large shrubs and specimen trees befitting the location. The finished grounds of the estate boast a refined elegance that is reminiscent of an earlier era.
