Minimalist Urban Garden

The homeowner and landscape architect worked closed together to design a contemporary “California style” outdoor space to tie together the client’s modern style home and new garage turned "mother in law suite". A custom horizontal cedar privacy fence encloses the sunken backyard combining a clean linear feel with much desired privacy. Bluestone paver grid and black metal edging surrounding the river stone patio carried clean lines into the landscape. Ornamental grass and bamboo were used functionally to conceal a concrete wall as well as providing a lush feel to the otherwise stark space. The homeowner installed a black basalt water feature creating a focal point.
